Saint John's Wort is antibacterial, making it effective as a compress on wounds - during the Middle Ages it was used to heal deep sword cuts. It is soothing to burns because it lowers the temperature of the skin, and it is also a diuretic and expectorant for treating bronchitis. Most commonly, Saint John's Wort is used to treat mild to moderate depression and symptoms of depression.
